Photo 30

Today we have been grandparents for exactly one year.

We haven't seen Sienna because even though it's Thursday Sophie has taken a day off work to be with her. I'm not sure if they are doing anything specific but if Matthew is involved he didn't seem to know anything about it when Mark rang him on Tuesday to ask him for something. He replied "yep, no problem, I'll drop it off when I bring Sienna on Thursday". When Mark told him Sienna wasn't coming because it's her birthday and Sophie was having a day off, his exact words were "oh, no".

They are having a family get together on Saturday so we'll be going to that although we'll be late arrivals as Amy doesn't finish work til 2pm. By the time she's got home, got changed it'll be 3pm before we arrive. But they're holding off on the cake and singing Happy Birthday until we get there.

Sophie sent me the official cake smash photos and I thought you might like to see some. My favourite is the first one. She's crying and it reminds of that song "it's my party and I'll cry if I want to".  Mind you I think I would as well if I had a garden with ears on my head and cream smeared all over my feet! She's pretty darned cute though even if I do say so.

  6. Very cute. I'm not sure I get the whole cake smashing thing, although Lily does end her birthdays covered in chocolate cake which isn't too dissimilar. A very Happy Birthday to Sienna. Where did that year go?! X

    1. Some little ones really go for it by the looks of some photos and end up covered in cake but I don't think Sienna was having any of that. I have no idea where this past year has gone, I'm sure I'm living in a different time warp to everybody else. xx

  7. Sienna is lovely and these are beautiful photos. I don't understand the attraction of the cake smash and I hate to see food wasted like this. I realise I'm a bah humbug and it doesn't detract in any way from the lovely wee lass in the photos or how her parents choose to mark her first birthday. Hope we get to see some photos of the party. 1. There wasn't much smashing going on in the end Catriona, I don't think Sienna was playing ball :) Some children are covered in cake, it looks like they've literally rolled around in it.

There's a lot I don't get these days and my parents and the in-laws probably raised their eyebrows at a few things we did. Keeping quiet is hereditary though, because they never said anything and I keep quiet as well! I'll definitely be taking some photos on Saturday. xx

  8. Lovely photos - did Sienna eat any I wonder?
My friend's daughter did something along the same lines - think it was called "trash the dress" - basically once her wedding was done with, they all went off roading, rolled in mud and basically trashed her lovely wedding dress! !!

    1. No I don't think she did Mrs. In fact I don't think she enjoyed the cake bit at all from what Sophie said so the photographer did well to get the photos she did.

I've seen photos of 'trash the dress' events in the media and it makes me feel really sad. I've still got my dress and although one day I will probably get rid of it, I can't comprehend doing something like that so soon after the wedding has taken place. The don't come cheap and it seems such a waste. That's definitely one trend I don't understand. xx

  12. oh my word, one year already! How is that possible?! Happy Birthday young lady!

That is the most beautiful photo shoot, I love it! Even if the whole cake smash thing is lost on us, it makes for a fantastic photo opportunity.

Email not sent yet, but I shall reply over the weekend.

    1. I have no idea where the past year has gone Sadie. I do know I say that a lot though so every year must fly by.

The photos are sweet aren't they. I love the one where she's bent down crying - not that she's upset but I just think it sums up what she thinks of the whole thing haha. Mark said it should have been a mandarin cake then she'd have been much happier, which is true, she can't get enough of them.

Don't worry about the e-mail. It was a bit War & Peace wasn't it, but it seemed easier to forward everything than try to condense it all. xx
