Photo 19

Oh My Goodness! It has been HOT today. Even the 3/4 trousers I pull out of the wardrobe to acknowledge summer has arrived have been replaced by shorts.

We had loosely discussed going out for the day - I fancied seeing some countryside after looking at the photos Rachel and Jules posted on Instagram, but we both decided sitting in the car, possibly in traffic queues, would be a waste of a lovely day, so we stayed put.

I got the paddling pool out yesterday. I wasn't sure if anybody would get in it, but who can resist a bit of splashing about whatever age you are.

Amy and Thomas spent the first 15 minutes bickering - Thomas wanted to splash Amy, Amy didn't want him to,  so I gave them half a pool each! It wasn't long before Amy got into the swing of things and her glasses came off - a sure sign she was about to give Thomas as good as she was getting.

Then they played forfeits, where one had to sit on a chair and answer questions about the other. Get it wrong and you got a bowl of water poured over you. As well as being funny it was really interesting to hear just how much they actually know about each other. Questions ranged from favourite colour, food, pokemon characters, friends and special dates to the more bizarre just so they could tip water over each other.

Amy eventually got out and left Thomas playing a game of trying to throw the bowl up and get it to land on his head. He must have spent a good hour doing this. Funny what keeps them entertained isn't it.

I got up this morning and they were already back in it. In the afternoon I dipped my toes in. It was so warm that I couldn't resist lying down in it to cool off. Lovely and much better than sitting in a hot car.

Hope you've all enjoyed your Sunday. xx

  1. This made me laugh Suzanne. Siblings can be so funny, driving each other crazy one minute and getting on famously the next.
It's been such beautiful weather today. Good for dipping in the pool. We might get ours out tomorrow.
We had a lovely time at the beach. I still have sand between my toes and some on my neck from where Lily put her arms around me. Luckily it's not far so we weren't stuck in a hot car. X

    1. They don't bicker often Jules but when they do they do it in style! The beach looked lovely much better than being packed in like sardines. You are very lucky having such lovely countryside on your doorstep and a beach as well. The paddling pool was so warm I couldn't resist a full dip. Have a lovely week xx

  2. That looks like great fun.

Would have loved a day at the beach today but the nearest is over two hours away and I couldn't face travelling in this heat so we have stayed put too....chilling in front of the fan.

    1. I think you were wise to stay put. It's not the journey but the traffic jams or accidents that you can never predict. I recommend a paddling pool to dip your toes in! Have a lovely week. Xx

  3. Went to the west foast today which is only 45mins on the new motorway link. It was 25C but with a lovely wind which always makes me feel fine. Daughter excelled herself again by not coming to see her Dad today despite being with the in laws yesterday. I decided we would take ourselves out for the day with a hastily put together packed lunch. We've just shared a lovely take away curry for our tea. Lovely day with little effort. Catriona

    1. Your day out sounds lovely but you must have been disappointed that your daughter didn't pop in on Father's Day. A couple of things have come to light over the year with M & S where we've thought "we're good enough to be left holding the baby but not included in certain things". We just let them get on with it but it can be annoying. Xx

  4. We've had last night and today in Whitby. You chose well staying in the garden. The beaches were soooo crowded and although I adore dogs, I really felt sorry for some today being dragged round the cobbled streets and onto the very hot sand. I like plenty of space on the beach and today there was none.

    1. Ooh Dracula territory. My friend goes to Whitby quite often she says it's lovely. It's somewhere we've never been. The beaches looked packed all over yesterday but I don't blame people for making the most of their weekend. You're right, no fun for doggies though poor things. Have a lovely week. Xx

    1. Thanks Jules. Unfortunately the meal was rubbish. We've been going for years but it's changed hands. We paid our bill and left before we'd finished our main course. Shame as it's one of the few restaurants we really enjoyed going to. Xx

  6. Looks like they were having great fun in your backyard. It's beautiful here, at the moment, in the low 20's with a bit of a breeze. That's about as hot as I like it these days! It's father's day here and DIL Rhonda (Kelseys mom) is taking us out for supper as mother's day was sort of missed because she had back surgery. Kelsey has gone to BC to spend the weekend with her dad. They are not split up, they are in the process of moving out there.

    1. It's been lovely but without sounding as though I'm complaining it's been too hot for me and there's been no breeze here which makes it worse. Hope you enjoyed your meal with DIL and that Kelsey is making good progress with her health. Xx

    2. The meal wasn't great but it's the thought that counts! We still had a nice visit.
Kelsey went for some tests last week and on top of her bronchiectasis they confirmed that she definitely has asthma as well. She's been treated for asthma since she was a baby so good to know that wasn't misdiagnosed, as they were questioning it. But it seems there always has to be something else. They checked her white blood count, which was fine, but they have decided they're not working properly and that is part of the reason she gets so sick. Now they are checking to see if she has an autoimmune disease! God, what next!!!

    3. Poor Kelsey, she must be fed up to the back teeth of feeling rotten and having all these tests done and the worry for the rest of you mustn't be much fun either. Matthew was diagnosed with asthma when he was very young and although the diagnosis was right the inhaler he was prescribed wasn't so it's good to know that they've got it right with Kelsey. I really hope the autoimmune tests come back negative but there are so many aren't there. I can only imagine the tests she's going to have to go through poor thing. xx

  7. Lovely to see your fun in the garden.
We went to the beach and beach hut, no traffic jams thank goodness. Had all three children and 2 grandchildren there it was very hectic and hot. Funny seeing 3 grown up children in the sea together! and now they don't argue any more!

  8. A pool looks like a very good idea. We didn't head to the beach this weekend, but the town was really busy, so I know lots of other people did!

  10. That looks like so much fun! It is in the mid 90s here, so warm, but not as hot as it will get later in the summer and early fall. I have the fan on and I am feeling comfortable. Enjoy the warm summer days. :)

    1. I don't know how you function in it Bless but I suppose you get used to it. Yesterday was about as hot as I can cope with and even then I can't sit out in it for any length of time. Nice to feel warm rather than cold though for a change :) have a lovely week. X

  11. Looks like you had great fun. We decided against going anywhere yesterday and instead got the paddling pool out - just big enough for the three of us to get in and splash around together, and a bit of a water fight with the hose pipe too!

    1. I think you made the best decision MMC. Nothing better with children than staying in the garden on a hot day and dipping your tootsies in the pool. The water fight sounds great fun. Thomas has been playing with our hose pipe a lot. I've let him because no doubt another 2 or 3 days of this and we'll be in drought mode then I'll have to be sensible :) xx

    1. You're a good mummy Sadie. I let mine go green before cleaning it! Not really, I do swish it out every so often but cleaning it out isn't half as easy as filling it is it. xx
