One Year Already

For some reason after a couple of glasses of wine my sleep isn't that good and I always wake up earlier than usual. Which is why at 6am I was sat in bed with a brew and my crochet.
It's a year today since Tom passed away. We didn't go to the cemetery but we did go and see Joan, who is fine. I did have a look through his box though and this is a photo of him when he was about Thomas' age. Can't see any similarities between the two of them but maybe others can.
My savings jar got a boost today. I saved £1.48 by buying Pringles from the £1 shop rather than Tesco, £2 on dog food and £5 because we passed on our usual nightcaps in the pub last night so the bill was less than normal.
I dropped Mum at the dentist this morning. She was there for one hour and came out with a filled tooth and a much lighter purse! And I finally got through to my surgery and made an appointment for a blood test next Monday. Then I rang the hairdressers for my usual cut and wash next Wednesday.

I've also bought school trousers for Thomas. I already have his shirts so all I need to get now is a winter coat and his shoes which I'll leave until nearer the time. He's only just gone from a size 2 to 3 so I doubt he'll grow, but you never know. Over the holidays the shirts and trousers will be washed several times so they don't feel new and he's comfortable wearing them.

Sienna is sleeping over tomorrow night so it's an early night for me and hopefully a lie in tomorrow morning to compensate for the night feeds I'll be doing. Mind you, as Amy seems to be in a routine of going to bed around 4am and not rising until gone noon, she could fit the midnight and 3am ones in no problem!

  1. If I had a couple of glasses of wine I'd be in bed for a week. I've not been able to drink alcohol of any kind since I had my son 33 years ago. Before that I could drink anything....go figure.
Awww....I've got my six year old gorgeous girl sleeping over tonight. We've just got in from our night out.
Have fun with your gorgeous girl tomorrow-x-

    1. I used to drink vodka like it was going out of fashion when I was younger, then got ridiculously drunk on my 21st and since then I've never been a good drinker. I have to be careful with what I have as well as a lot of drinks can bring me out in a red rash on my chest, neck and face.

Hope you had a lovely night out with Ruby. Did she enjoy the BFG? xx

  2. What a lovely photo of Tom, a really cheeky chap I bet. I think I'm going to start a savings jar. A penny a day. Day 1 = 1p
Day ten you put 10p in
    etc
I'll see how far I get! Probs not far, BC being much like the queen, I rarely carry cash!!

    1. Mum was telling me about this saving challenge a few weeks ago. Apparently if you do it you can save about £650 a year. Don't mind the beginning of the year but not sure I'd fancy the latter months. I don't often have much cash in my purse but that's more by design because when I do I find it doesn't last very long! xx

  3. A year already. Goodness me, that's gone by quickly.

Amy's night time habits makes me feel tired just reading about it. I am usually nodding off shortly after 9, I'm such an old lady!

I need to get cracking with buying school uniform. I've normally got it pretty much sorted by now, but not this time. At least some of her PE kit will do another year.

Hope your day is going well. Violet is currently in her room - tidying!!! Ha. We'll see! She said earlier on she'd been tidying, I went in there and didn't see one jot of difference. I'm keeping my mouth shut for now, but I'm starting to simmer. She has a friend coming round tomorrow, if she doesn't clear the crap from the floor they won't even be able to walk in there! ;o) xxx

    1. It has gone quickly hasn't it, yet in some ways it only feels like yesterday we were visiting him in the home.

I try and buy the shirts and trouser early on because I've been caught out in the past and struggled to find his size. At least there'll be a saving this year with Amy going to college. What you're expected to buy for secondary school is ridiculous.

I'm going to try and e-mail you later, although I can't promise with having Sienna here. If I do I'll attach a pic of Amy's room. I'm too ashamed to put it up for public viewing! xx

    2. Girls, I had to share that Miss 22 was 'tidying her room' for nigh on 10 years solid. It never ever looked done unless I went in. The best way she tidied it and kept it tidyish for a while would be when I'd had enough and I went in her room, with her, plonked myself on the bed and dictated to her about moving X y and z to here there and BIN! So much crap. Pens, books, papers, little diaries, make up, CDs, socks, knickers, clothes, etc etc. Her room is so tidy now, BECAUSE IT IS MY CRAFT ROOM! Take heart from this. I wish I'd now never wasted all my breath and just shut the door!! Her dad used to go mad more than me! He'd be raging about it...yet...guess who was the one who bought her all the stuff in the first place!!!

    3. Well I'm feeling quite smug because if Amy follows in Miss 22's footsteps re. leaving home I've only got 5 years left of the mess whereas Sadie has 11 :)

It was only when she started revised for GCSE's that she let it get so untidy. Before then it was a Sunday job and she used to do it beautifully.

It's strange that you should mention about going in and telling Miss 22 where to put stuff, sometimes Amy can only tidy up if I'm in there sat on the bed. It's as though it's all become too much for her and she needs direction. The untidy bugger shouldn't let it get to that stage though so I have no sympathy but I do go in just so it gets done. xx

  4. Like Sadie said, that year has gone so fast. It was around that time I started to follow your blog. Back home now and I'm trying to catch up on everyone's posts. I love your crochet. No school uniform needed here yet although I've noticed its all in the local supermarket. It will be next year for me. I think it pays to be organised but I'll not get any just yet ☺ X

    1. Hope you all had a lovely day Jules and that you're enjoying being a 'Mrs' :)

Aww, it's so sweet when they start school. They look all grown up in their uniform. I loved the KS1 stage, they do some lovely things. It won't be long before you have to apply for a place will it? Hope you manage to get the school you want. Unfortunately, it's not always the case these days :( xx

  5. They sort of have the same eyes and haircut, I think. One year goes by quickly, doesn't it?

    1. The years seem to fly by lately Bless. Wish I could stop the clock for a while sometimes. Yes, I think they are more similar around the eyes and the cheeks than the mouth. A lot of people say Mark and Thomas look alike but I can't see that either. xx
