Last minute requests again

Another last minute text this morning from school requesting children bring in a t-shirt in their house colour for sports day tomorrow. Yes, I know it happens every year, but No, I'm afraid it's not on my list of things to remember and a bit more notice than the day before would be helpful.

They did the same thing the week before last. A text on Thursday to 'wear something green to support Manchester Children's Hospital' on Friday. Of course, Thomas didn't have anything green did he, so I had to go out and buy a t-shirt. If it were Amy she'd wear anything and not care a fig but Thomas needs to have it right or he'd be awake all night worrying about it.

Anyway, I killed two birds with one stone as it were. We needed a carrier for Wendy so I picked this up while I was there. I've placed her mat in it to encourage her to have a go but she hasn't gone near it. Not even a sniff. So my theory of getting her used to it hasn't worked and we'll probably just have to shove her into it next week when we go to Morton in Marsh.
I've done a little bit more sorting out of craft stuff and also backed another quilt. Just the hexy one to finish now.
It's been raining and miserable all day here. So I had no option but to cheer myself up with one of these. Delicious. Could have eaten 3 in a row no problem.
In fact I might have another one with a cup of coffee before I go to bed. I'm such a rebel.

  1. school is so annoying with things like that. They don't like giving plenty of notice do they?!

Had school reports today. Was a bit teary eyed and proud reading Violet's. Even her attendance wasn't too bad (bronze) considering all the times she's been sick this year.

You are so good making your quilts. You really get stuck in and get them finished. I faff around and don't get anything done. I really want to do some sewing this week, but I can guarantee I won't do it for one reason or another. Wish I could take a leaf out of your book.

Ooh I love those teacakes when in the mood. Very easy to scoff an entire packet!
have a lovely evening. We've had rain here this p.m, nice heavy stuff which was highly amusing when Bill went out to the ice cream van to get Violet's 'usual' (her words) as he made his way back a massive flash of lightning made him jump miles. Hilarious! Pretty rainbows have been painting the sky too.

    1. It is annoying. I had my day all mapped out for staying in and doing things yesterday then had to get in the car and go and buy a t-shirt.

I love school reports. Well, the little paragraph the teacher writes at the very end of everything else that is standardised year on year. Those few lines mean more to me than anything else that's just been lifted off some site or other that schools seem to use.

I need to clear the decks and get the hexy quilt finished and parcel the blankets and hats up as well.

Can just imagine Violet ordering her 'usual'. Funny :) Would have loved to seen Bill jump out of his skin. Things like that can have me giggling for hours. My nanna once walked into a lampost. I can still bring that image back to mind and have a good belly laugh about it and it must have been 30 years ago! xx

  2. Thomas's school seems to be notorious for those last minute requests. It would drive me mad too. Great restraint with the teacakes....I would have eaten three! X

    1. I was trying not to look too greedy but in all honesty I could probably have eaten the whole box. Oh yes, if there was a grade for 11th hour requests they'd get A*. xx

  3. You are very good with your crafting, well done.
I love those teacakes, oh my its been years since I had one, I have never seen them to buy in the US.
I really liked your weekend post, the picture of Lytham made me very nostalgic.
I think when Blackpool is mentioned the thought of candy floss and arcades comes to mind. But quite close by are places with a very different feel. I love Cleveleys and Fleetwood too, I bet you have discovered them.

    1. Maybe I could set up a Tunnocks tea cake export business :) I agree, Blackpool conjures up a whole host of images but the resorts either side are lovely.

Oh yes, Cleveleys is a favourite as well although the front has changed a lot over the past few years. We used to take Matthew when he was little and Tom and Joan loved a drive over there for fish and chips and a walk on the front. Fleetwood I don't know so well although we have been a couple of times.

The countryside behind the scenes is lovely as well. Wrea Green Village is beautiful. xx

  4. I've been feeling a bit low today so I have snarfed some Galaxy Counters which are off limits for me but I don't give a stuff....lol.
    Love that spaceship fleece-x-

    1. Sorry to hear you've been feeling low :( There's nothing quite like a bit of chocolate to lift the spirits though. When I was little I used to love counters especially if the packet had a giraffe on it. Still love galaxy chocolate however it comes wrapped. xx

  5. How nice of the school to give you a one-day notice of when something is needed! I'm glad you were able to buy the necessary colored T-shirts, each time.

I had to do a search for those teacakes as I am unfamiliar with them. They sound quite delicious.

You are doing very well with your quilts! Good of you to finish them. I tend to start new projects without finishing the ones already started!

Hope you have a good week.

    1. They are scrumptious Bless. I think they may possibly be one of the things that haven't shrunk too much over the years either, but I could still eat more than one at a time.

We're lucky to have a school uniform shop in Middleton otherwise I'd no idea where all these t-shirts would come from at such short notice. I had a red one from Comic Relief but he's inconveniently grown since then haha.

I'm making a concerted effort to finish the things I've started. I seem to have stuff everywhere at the moment and I want to get some of it packed up and sent off. xx

  6. You would think the school/class would send home a monthly newsletter with all events and requirements noted. The chocolate teacake looks delicious, haven't had one for years.

    1. We get a weekly newsletter which gives a list of dates for everything that's coming up but they don't go into detail about what they're doing or what's needed. For example we know weeks in advance they're doing something for Comic Relief, but it's at the 11th hour they tell us what exactly. It could range from non-uniform, PJ day or wear something red. It's the detail we need in advance.

I do love a Tunnocks tea cake with a brew. xx

  7. Your first sentence set me off giggling as I thought of that letter!!! I can eat those tea cakes by the packet, fitting a whole one in at once!!! I usually peel off the chocolate with my teeth from over the marshmallow, I'll then eat the mallow, and then nibble the biscuit in rounds!!!

    2. As soon as the text came through I thought about you! Sadie your comment made me laugh. I'm as classy as Rachel because I eat mine pretty much the same way. It was only for photographic purposes I took a bite. And that's how much I love them. I couldn't even take a photo without diving in first haha xx

  8. The joy of text messages, In the good old days before mobile phones schools would have had to have sent a letter! ( which would probably get lost in the bottom of a school bag anyway!)

    1. We get loads of texts, most of them cancelling after school sporting activities. They're also sent on the day the activity is taking place, so that must annoy a lot of parents. Ah yes, the good old school letter, you can't beat it. We get a weekly newsletter which is good but doesn't really go into the nitty gritty of what's requried. xx
