Daily News and Birthday Weekend Plans

Daily news first.

I took Mum for coffee to the garden centre this morning. We were supposed to be shopping for plants for her birthday but she couldn't quite see what she wanted so the birthday gift is still to be given although I'm sure she'll find something when we're out and about again.

As strange as this sounds I found my new clothes there. No, I won't be going away in wellies and a barbour jacket. They have a Bon Marche concession and a couple of things were just what I was looking for. I hate shopping for clothes, it's not something I enjoy doing or look forward to and when I do go it's out of necessity rather than pleasure. So I had a bit of a splurge. I bought two tops which are the sort of thing I love, floaty chiffon type material (I can't be doing with anything that clings to me), 2 pairs of 3/4 trousers, 2 everyday tops and a pair of long linen trousers.
Amy's year were called into the hall today and told that apart from returning for exams they had now officially finished school. I can remember her first day at school as though it were yesterday and although she's glad to see the back of this era I don't mind admitting I felt a bit choked.

And now the birthday weekend plans.  I've told Mark not to read the blog now for a couple of days so I'm able to share with you what we've got planned for him.

Mark is 50 tomorrow! He was 25 when I met him, where does time fly? Anyway, Amy and Thomas decided they wanted to take him to Breakout in Manchester. It's one of those rooms that you're locked in for an hour and you have to find clues and solve puzzles in order to escape. There are several different rooms to choose from and they eventually settled on Virus.

Afterwards we're meeting Matthew and Sophie and going for a meal.

Saturday morning just the two of us are heading off to Lytham St Annes to spend a night in a hotel we used to frequent quite often before the children came along.
Matthew and Sophie are driving over for the evening to join us for a meal and a night at the casino which will make it fun. It's years since we've done this but it was something we used to love doing whenever the fancy took us.

We'll be home again by Sunday afternoon so it's just a short break away but something we've not done since Thomas was born so it will be a nice treat.... for both of us.

As long as we're still speaking after the Breakout challenge that is :)

xxx

  1. such nice weekend plans! I'm glad you were able to find some nice new clothes.

I'm going to be a bit choked next year, when Violet leaves primary school to go to High School. She's excited about it, I'm hoping that lasts, but me? I'm already mourning the loss of my baby!

    1. Year 6 for Thomas as well next year. Amy was definitely ready for secondary school, I'm not so sure about him, although he does have another 12 months to go. We noticed a massive difference when Amy went to secondary. As parents you're lucky if you get a foot through the door for anything apart from parents evening. Not at all like primary school. They are definitely less family focused and treat the children very much like adults, dealing with them directly. It takes a bit of getting used to then you heave a big sigh of relief that you're not expected to get involved in very much if anything at all haha xx

    1. Thank you for the birthday wishes Bless. I do not enjoy clothes shopping at all never have done and I doubt I ever will do so I'm glad I found a few things yesterday.

  3. Sounds like you will have a great weekend to celebrate Mark's 50th.
My granddaughter went to one of those escape thinks and she said it was lots of fun but not great if you are claustrophobic! Have fun!!!

    1. None of us are claustrophobic, although I can't get into the back of a two door car. I need my own escape route There is a member of staff in the room with us, to help with the clues if we are really rubbish and also with a key for letting us out I hope! The one Amy and Thomas chose is at the higher end of difficult so I'm not sure we'll come out with our heads held high, but they both liked the sound of it. They love all things zombie/apocalypse/virus etc. as does Mark.xx

  4. Our favourite hotel-we were there in March and have booked a post christmas break in December. You'll see many changes if you haven't been for a while and our favourite part now is Grand 22 just along the road. Hope you have a sea view although I should probably say a beach view as the sea never seems to reach the shore. Happy birthday weekend to you all. Catriona

    1. Hi Catriona, yes I can tell by looking on line it's changed quite a lot. We've spent a fair few weekends there in the past with friends. Has some good memories for us. We do indeed have a sea/beach view. I love looking out onto the beach and prom, it's a lovely view. xx

  6. Have a wonderful weekend. Another exciting milestone for Amy. It goes so quick. Lily doesn't start school until next year and already I don't want her to go. X

    1. When they're little people always say "it goes so quick, enjoy every minute" and I used to think, well actually I can't wait til we're past this stage or that stage, but looking back everybody was so right. It's flown by. Amy is really looking forward to starting the next part of her life though and is glad to see the back of school. xx

    1. Thanks Rachel. The hotel was lovely and would be nice to pop in for a drink or coffee should the fancy take you. We won't be hotel-ing for a while now but if we book in at the caravan site over there we'll definitely have a drive over to the casino for a night out again. xx
