Boring Bank Holiday

There is very little to report from Number 38 today. We're in desperate need of fresh air but getting wet just for the sake of it didn't appeal to any of us, so we stayed put again.

I've reached for the biscuits far too often this weekend, so I made a fruit salad to dip into instead.
I was in desperate need of a couple of extra bobbins so popped into Middleton to see if I could find any. After looking in all the obvious shops I eventually found these. Sixteen are a few more than I need but at £1 for the pack I'm not grumbling. Now, no matter what colour I need I can just reach for one without any messing around.
And I've done a little bit of hand sewing today. The teddy is made from left over backing material I've used for the taggies. They've turned out OK but it's so hard to sew a face that looks cute and not like some deranged creature from deep within the woods. In fact, I think I might buy some felt and just stick the features on. It'll be a lot easier.
And that's it. Not a very exciting Bank Holiday, although Mum and my S-i-L came down for a coffee and as I've not seen S-i-L since we went to the ballet in January, it was nice to have a catch up.

Has anybody had a more exciting day than me?

  1. Excitement is very over rated!

    1. Yes, you're right Sue. I think it was the enforced staying in because of the weather rather than actually wanting to go out and do anything. Choice is a great thing isn't it. xx

  2. Nowt wrong with a quiet day, besides how many people created deranged woodland creatures? Not many I bet.

I went to watch a football match today (Burnley v QPR) which I can imagine many people think is both boring and a waste of money!

    1. I've read your comment a few times now and it still makes me laugh. So thank you for that :) Deranged woodland creature has now become a pin cushion. There's no way I was traumatising any child with it.

I don't think anything is boring or a waste of money if the person doing it is enjoying it. I'm really not into football and have only just realised what all the fuss about Leicester City is. xx

  3. Sometimes boring is good. It makes the other stuff even more exciting. It sounds like you've had a pleasant day really. The weather faired up after lunch here so Lily and I enjoyed a lovely stroll somewhere nice, quiet and scenic this afternoon. Shortly I'll be finishing my day with Peter Kay and a small glass of wine. Content, that's exciting enough for me. X

    1. You're right there Jules. Too much excitement becomes the norm and then what is there to be excited about. It's not as if I never go out and we had no plans that didn't come off, but the enforced stay at home because of wet weather didn't help. Content is good, very very good in fact. xx

  4. We went for a bike ride, it started to rain, we got soaked, came home and then I had a nap - life in the fast lane!

    1. Aah, but was this the nap after the night out haha? If we'd really wanted to I suppose we could have done something like have a walk around the garden centre, but after my marathon shopping session on Saturday I don't think my legs could have taken it. xx

  5. Nothing exciting to report from here, either. In fact, I stayed in my 'jamas all day (I know..) yesterday. Sometimes, it just feels the right thing to do. Have a good week.

    1. PJ's is always the right thing to do in my opinion. In fact I only got dressed yesterday because Mum and S-i-L were coming round. Not that S-i-L would have batted an eyelid but not sure what Mother would have had to say about it haha. xx

  6. No. Very quiet here too.
Saturday - home. Bill at his mothers.
Sunday - home. Violet had a friend round.
Monday - home. Violet refused to get dressed until late p.m, when I pointed out some friends were outside as was dad, so she could go and play. Which she did.
Sunny on Sunday & Monday, then some sort of monsoon started up Sunday night. I went to bed and watched Masterchef thinking it was the final, but oh no, I was wrong. Hm. I am now ready for it to be over so the Great British Sewing Bee can return. I'm sure it's going to be on this year. Hope so.

The description 'some deranged creature from deep' had me laughing my head off!

Those threads were such a bargain! what a find.

    1. A quiet Bank Holiday seems to be the general theme. Smiling at Violet in her PJ's. Thomas hasn't been out of his all weekend, although they were clean on each day I hasten to add. He even wore them when his friend came over to play and Amy's math's tutor was here. He has no shame lol.

The Sewing Bee is something else I've never watched but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it comes back on. I'm all set for In The Club tonight. Can't believe it was 2014 when the first series finished. Thought they would have done the 2nd series a lot sooner. Never mind, it's on now.

Laughing at us both, with our demands/expectations of what we think should be shown on TV :) xx

  7. Very boring bank holiday for me too!! Weather cold and rainy. Ventured out this morning but still cold. I eat loads more when I am in all day! Wonder if thrift de luxe supports Burnley?
Some "deranged creature from deep" made me smile too! xxx

    1. Same here Pauline regarding eating. For something to do I find myself wandering into the kitchen and over to the biscuit tin. Before I know it I've eaten far too many, which is why I've made the fruit salad.

The teddy face was hideous. I'm supposed to be brightening some child's day up, not sending them into therapy! xx

  8. Sorry the rain made you stay in on a holiday. Monday wasn't a holiday for us on this side of the pond. Just another regular work day. Except I work from home, these days, so, I got to stay home instead of going in to the office.

I am drooling over your fruit salad - strawberries and grapes and blueberries! All the soft fruits I can't eat raw at the moment, because they can't be peeled properly. I can eat canned fruits, cooked fruit, and fruit that can be peeled. I am off to cut and peel a cantaloupe.

    1. Hi Bless, Hope you enjoyed your cantaloupe. Why is it when we can't eat something it's the thing we want most of all. Very unfair. When Mum was in hospital she was nil by mouth for days and all she could think about was melon. It was on the menu the first day she came home to stay with us. Not long now though until you can have as much fruit as you want :) xx
