Bonfire Night and a Bug

I chose white roses at Lidl yesterday. They were bought with Sadie and her White Month in mind. If you haven't read her post about it pop over and have a look. I love the whole idea and it's definitely inspired me to try and clear the decks at Number 38 before December. Our little house has been quite neglected lately in favour of Number 14.
I love autumn but not so much when the leaves start falling in the garden. In preparation for our fireworks last night I raked them up so that Mark can beat a hasty retreat without slipping on them.
Thomas was really excited when he got in from school and was on a countdown to darkness. I did the usual bonfire night food of hot dogs, burgers, baked potatoes and chocolate digestives with marshmallows melted over the fire to make s'mores which Amy loves. The fireworks were really good, lots of bangs and colour.

Just as we set off the final one I started to feel really ill. It came on in a matter of minutes, sickly, shivery but really hot and I felt like a lump of lead. I took myself straight to bed and slept from 7pm til 4pm today!

I still feel a bit wobbly but hopefully I've slept the worst of it off.

xx

  1. I hope you're feeling much better soon. At least you were able to have a lovely evening before the lurgy took hold. Sadies idea is great isn't it? X

    1. Feeling much better now thanks Jules. It was a very considerate bug, it's timing couldn't have been better and it even got me out of tidying the kitchen haha. xx

  2. oh I hate bugs that suddenly hit like that. The only good thing is they seem to clear off just as quickly. Hope you are feeling better now.

fireworks sound like fun. We had to postpone. Rain scuppered plans.

am thrilled with your WM roses! Actually, have to address this in a post next week, as am so pleased with the amount of people who not only understood WM, but have adopted and adapted for themselves too. Warms my heart!

    1. I'm much better thanks Sadie. It came on so quickly I don't mind admitting I thought it was the beginning of something worse as the sudden onset of sickness and flu like symptoms can be a sign of (whispers HA). Something that's always at the back of my mind.

That's a shame about the fireworks. It poured down here all afternoon and we were wondering if we'd be able to do it ourselves. It cleared up though so we got out there and started as soon as it was dark.

Glad to hear people are following your WM. You never know, it could become an internet sensation :) xx

    1. Hi Janice. Much better today thank you, but taking it easy. Mum said exactly the same thing, "your body is telling you to slow down and take a rest". I certainly listened. Can't believe I slept for 21 hours! Good job Mark was around to sort Amy and Thomas out as they'd have been completely abandoned. xx

    1. Feeling a lot better now thanks Rachel. I think it must have been something passed on from Thomas although thankfully I wasn't sick. It came on so quick I was a bit worried especially as sickness and flu like symptoms are one of the warning signs of you know what. Looks like I just needed a good sleep though xx

  5. Oh yuck, poor you. Hope that was just a quick visit from whatever it was. Know what you mean about having responsibility for two houses, though. I only just manage to keep one functioning!

    1. We were only saying the other day that we're ready for Number 14 to be finished now. We need a break from all the organising and sorting people out and I need to sort my own house out as well. It looks like it was one of those 24/48 hour things, I feel much better today. The marathon sleep was obviously needed! xx

    2. Good to hear you're all mended. Must admit I'm struggling with emptying my relative's house, for all sorts of reasons.

    3. It's hard emotionally and physically to go through somebody's house and all their belongings and it certainly takes its toll. To be honest we'd have struggled if we hadn't had nephew J to help us do the heavy stuff.

It's made me determined to get my own house in order in the New Year. I'm going to have a good sort out and get rid of 'stuff and paperwork'. Anything of value will be noted down so the kids don't throw it away by accident. I still wonder if we've dumped priceless antiques that just looked like tat to us from Number 14!

We're also going to update our will which hasn't been done since Amy was a baby. I don't want to leave any of the kids having to trawl through paperwork and belongings like we've had to do xx
